What are you doing to protect your skin from the sun?

What are you doing to protect your skin from the sun?

Sun Awareness Week (4th-10th May) has been put in place by The British Association of Dermatologists who wish to spread the awareness of too much sun exposure and the damage it can cause. This annual campaign raises awareness and supports public health messaging on the understanding of the dangers of sunburn, excessive tanning, and to discourage people from using products such as sunbeds or lying out for too long in the garden. While it’s an important time to get as much natural vitamin D as we can during isolation in these difficult times, we should also understand the healthy balance.

While antioxidants are great for including in your diet, we sometimes can’t consume enough fruits and vegetables to get our required amount. Supplements such as Red Magic can help defend the body against free radicals that are caused by environmental stressors, including too much sun exposure. With 10,000 ORAC (the nutritional power of food measured in antioxidant units) units per serving, Red Magic provides more antioxidants than average portions of fruit and vegetables. Sun damage on the skin can cause diseases such as Skin Cancer as well as encouraging premature ageing of the skin. Red Magic can help to fight against free radicals too.

Free radicals are unstable molecules that can enter our bodies and damage the cells beneath the skin. They form when atoms or molecules gain or lose electrons. These unstable atoms can damage cells and cause illness or premature ageing. Red Magic helps to not only fight against the damages of too much sun exposure but air pollution, a high sugar diet, artificial blue light, and stress too.

As our inside out approach, taking care of your body from the supplements we consume is just the first step we recommend. The skin is one of the largest organs the body has that protects the body from harmful damage or infections etc, so it is, therefore, important to care for it and prevent sunburn – bringing us to the most important step in our two-pronged approach. Proto-col’s Intense Protection Day Moisturiser SPF50+ provides, with each application, soft and supple skin with a protective layer to avoid sun damage. This not only helps the skin from burning but also protects the skin against premature ageing as the sun's UVB rays can cause fine lines and wrinkles to appear more visible when exposed both for a long duration of time and regularly.
