Collagen facts: what is it?

Collagen facts: what is it?

Collagen is a vital skin protein; it is nature's own ingredient for keeping our bodies firm and supple.

You'll find collagen not only in skin but in your nails, connective tissues, bones, muscles and blood vessels. It is essential for tissue repair, joint health and cell regeneration.

We researched the age of depletion of collagen within the body and it was found that lines and wrinkles would begin to appear by the age of 25. This is due to the natural decrease in production of collagen within the body, which becomes even more significant after the menopause. For us, science is essential.

Collagen type 1 and 3 is found in Bovine collagen and specifically works within the body to enhance recovery, support joints and movement while boosting the quality of hair and nail growth.

Our bodies begin to lose 1.5% of the natural production of collagen each year from our early-mid 20's. By the age we're 40, we have lost 30% of the natural production of collagen. By using a collagen supplement, our bodies begin to increase natural production and support our bodies throughout the ageing process.

The signs of collagen loss:

While collagen occurs in many parts of the body, it is our faces that help us to most easily gauge the state of our collagen levels. Signs of collagen loss in our skin include:

  • Increase in fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Sagging skin and poor skin elasticity.
  • Dry skin that lacks vitality.
  • Cellulite.
  • Slow recovery form skin damage, including acne.
