I started out my athletic career at the age of 14 by attending my local running club Aldershot Farnham and District to whom I still belong. It was there where my mother put in the hard yards into lifting me to and from training on a regular basis. This enabled me to develop my love for the sport and find friendships through a common interest and bond in a way only sport can give you.
I enjoyed early success at a Domestic (English schools + national), and European level winning silver at the U20 European cross country champs and Gold Ahead of the well know Mo Farah at the U23 European 5000m track Champs. Team European Cross Country medals were also won and a big inspiration to my development.
After a few years of injury trying to break into the senior ranks I moved to Eugene, Oregon, U.S.A with my current Girlfriend and G.B Olympian over 800m, Jemma Simpson. The move was inspired by our coach Mark Rowland (88’ Olympic silver medalist 3000S/C) who had taken a job with the Oregon Track Club (OTCE). It’s here that it’s widely regarded as the ‘home of distance running’ and the ‘pre’ fontain magic. The team offered us an environment that helped me blossom and make my mark finally at a senior level, winning silver behind Mo Farah at the European 10,000m track champs in 2010. Also running multiple p.b’s over the next 5 years, Including making the London Olympic team. We made some great friends and had some great success but we always saw ourselves coming back to England to finish off our careers.
Moving back to the U.K for the year 2014 I looked upon a new chapter as the London Olympics had brought about a performance affected by injury. This has made Rio Olympics even more of an importance for me. With a view to change event to the Marathon and attack this event at the next Olympics I brought on board the coaching expertise of Alan Storey who has already got me off to a flyer at the London Marathon 2014 with a performance of 2.11. An Achilles Operation put things on hold for the last 10 months, but with that almost behind me now I look forward to getting back to the form previously and attacking the Rio Olympic qualifying standard and making history over Marathon.
Last performances due to my Achilles operation end of Nov last year were April/May 2014.
